Josiah Ackerman Briggs

Josiah Ackerman Briggs was born 24 Dec 1882 to John Valentine Briggs

and Sarah Jane Ackerman at Westfarms (Fordham), Westchester Co.,

New York. He was educated in the borough of the Bronx and lived there

all his life. He was a member of the Fordham Manor Reformed Church

and served as clerk there for forty two years.

On Mar 15, 1876 he married Julia Wheatley, daughter of Charles

Wheatley and Nancy Hutchinson. Josiah was a Civil Engineer, Surveyor

and was Chief Engineer of the Borough of the Bronx. He loved to travel

and had visited most of the United States and has traveled from Montreal

to Vancouver in Canada. He had intended to travel across the Atlantic but

promised his family he wouldn't do so by airplane. Josiah was a loving father

and grandfather.

Josiah died 27 May 1941 and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, the Bronx.
